A delegation of the Parliamentary SDGs Taskforce Sub-Committee on SDGs Scorecard headed by the Convener Dr. Aisha Ghaus Pasha (MNA) along with two members of the aforesaid committee i.e. Dr. Shazia Sobia Aslam Somro (MNA) and Ms. Ghazala Saifi (MNA and Parliamentary Secretary for National Heritage & Culture), representatives of Planning Commission GoP and UNDP visited P&DD, GoAJ&K on October 14, 2020. The Minister for Finance and Health (Convener AJ&K Legislative Assembly Taskforce on SDGs), Dr. Muhammad Najeeb Naqi Khan along with the venerable members of the AJ&K Legislative Assembly i.e. Mr. Hassan Ibrahim Khan (MLA), Ms. Naseema Wani (MLA), Mr. Muhammad Saghir Khan (MLA), Focal Person of the taskforce, Secretary AJ&K Legislative Assembly, Additional Chief Secretary (Dev), Secretaries of the respective line departments and officials of P&DD also participated in the aforesaid meeting.
The said committee is constituted by the National Assembly which has been mandated for working together with the counterparts in provincial/area Governments and legislative assemblies to robustly oversight the respective SDGs policy, resource allocation, and implementation mechanisms etc. for achieving the SDGs. The participants were briefed in an elucidated manner regarding the progress made so far in AJ&K on SDGs and SDGs Scorecard development in the said meeting. Moreover, the Additional Chief Secretary (Dev) shed light on the major resources, Governance System and Administrative Setup, Hydro Power Profile, Tourism Corridor, strengths and challenges in sustainable development of the State and development priorities of the GoAJ&K. Likewise, ongoing interventions by various development partners to uplift the socio economic conditions of AJ&K were also highlighted urging the committee to play its significant role in the development of the State. Representatives from MoPD&SI, UNDP and Federal SDGs Unit also gave detailed briefings on implementation of SDGs and Data ecosystem in Pakistan.
The committee also met with the Prime Minister, AJ&K and Speaker AJ&K Legislative Assembly to discuss the matters of mutual interest.
