Pakistan has initiated preparation exercises to present SDGs progress through it’s first ‘Voluntary National Review – VNR’at the High-Level Political Forum – HLPF in June 2019

A high level multi-stakeholder meeting for the preparation of Pakistan’s first Voluntary National Review – VNRwas held on 19th July 2018. Mr. Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui, the Secretary, Ministry of Planning, Development and Reform - MoPDR chaired the meeting. He said that after the Millennium Development Goals – MDGs unsatisfactory performance, this time the Government of Pakistan has approached the Agenda 2030 of Sustainable Development Goals – SDGs with renewed vigour while realizing its global obligations and greater national responsibility.
The chair informed that this national realization has equally been substantiated earlier by actions such as parliamentary endorsement of SDGs as theNational Development Agenda; approval of ‘National Framework of SDGs’ by the National Economic Council – NEC; alignment of Public Sector Development Programmes - PSDPsand provincial Annual Development Programmes – ADPswith SDGs targets and indicators and the launching of Data Reporting Gaps by the MoPDR.
Now the MoPDR being the focal ministry on SDGs and other ministries through their nominated focal persons to realize their national responsibility and leave no stone unturned for preparing the VNR report through effective coordination, data sharing and portraying all the interventions made and milestones achieved so far. Mr. Zafar ul Hassan, the Chief SDGs, MoPDR said while appreciating the level of support provided by the line ministries so far reiterated the need for adopting a whole government approach for preparing the VNR report where all parties work in consonance, share data seamlessly and provide feedback thorough greater coordination. The SDGs section along with the Federal SDGs unit is ready to perform as a hub for coordinating and preparing the VNR.
